Summer 2019, MFA study trip to Berlin, Weimar, Dessau, and Amsterdam. 7 students and 1 instructor.
Our group visited Erik Spiekermann’s letterpress studio, where we had the pleasure of meeting Lars Mueller, designer and publisher. We also visted the Buchstaben Museum of typographic signage. We had private meetings with lettering artist Martina Flor, book designer Joost Grootens, and type designer Bas Jacobs. At the University Library of Amsterdam, Matthieu Lommen, curator of graphic design and publishing history, instructor, author, and publisher, provided a wonderful seminar.
We also visited Bauhaus sites during the 100th anniversary. These included the museums in Berlin and Weimar, and the schools in Weimar and Dessau, Haus am Horn in Weimar and faculty housing in Dessau.
I was responsible for writing copy, taking photographs, and uploading to the MFA blog daily.
